With our purpose-built transporter truck, we can offer a large motorhome and coach recovery service from any location within the UK or mainland Europe.
Traditionally , most types of vehicle utilised for large motorhome recovery work make use of a suspended-tow operation, which carries the risk of damage to bodywork, suspension and steering components on the motorhome, as well as creating an excessive combined overall length and minimal rear ground clearance when on the road. Furthermore, where an automatic transmission is fitted, the motorhome prop-shaft requires disconnection to avoid damage to the driveline. This operation requires the use of special tools on many American motorhomes.
When using our recovery truck all of these problems are eliminated. With its purpose-designed rear deck, the vehicle will easily carry motorhomes up to 40 ft in length and 12.5 ft high, loading and transporting in complete safety. Where the recovery route and ferry restrictions allow, we can increase the height limit to 15 ft.
THE IMPRESSIVE TRUCK
Our vehicles are based on a Leyland Daf 95 XF 6x2 drawbar chassis/ cab with a 28 ft 8 in wheelbase. A Granning drop rear axle has been fitted to give additional load capacity, and the overall unladen length is 39 ft 6 in.
With a 40 ft motorhome on its 32 ft bed the total length of the vehicle and load is under 50 ft, which makes the unit far more manoeuvrable than a standard breakdown truck towing a motorhome, and makes negotiating roundabouts and road junctions much easier.
With a maximum plated weight of 23 tonnes (50,690 ibs), the truck can carry loads of up to 13 tonnes (28,650 ibs).
The air suspension allows the rear of the platform to be lowered to within 9 inches of ground level, and using the on-board heavy-duty winching system, loading and unloading are easy and safe operations.
In addition, an 8 foot extending towbar is fitted so that a car or trailer can also be towed, even with a large motorhome on board. A gross Combination Weight of 26.5 tonnes (58,400 ibs) ensures that any towed vehicle can be catered for.
